On 28 November 1996, Gp received there license for cellular phone operation in Bangladesh. GP started there operations on 26 march 1997, Independence Day in Bangladesh.
Robi
By active user, Robi is the 2nd largest mobile operator in Bangladesh.
Robi axiata ltd. started there business as a joint venture company between telekom malaysia and AK khan and company. It was formerly known as telekom malaysia international Bangladesh ltd.
AKTEL’ was rebranded as ‘Robi’ which means Sun in Bengali. It also took the logo of parent company Axiata Group which itself also went througha major rebranding in 2009.
In 2013, after five years of presence,Docomo reduced its ownership to 8% for Axiata to take 92%.
Airtel
Airtel is the number 4th largest mobile operators in Bangladesh. Airtel was formaly owned by a indian company but on 28 January 2016, it was announced that Robi Axiata and Airtel Bangladesh will merge there business. On November 16, 2016, Finally Robi and Airtel were merged and Robi set sail as the merged company. currently they are number 4th mobile operator in Bangladesh.
Banglalink
3rd largest mobile operator in Bangladesh is Banglalink (by active user).
Banglalink (sheba telecom private ltd.) was granted license in 1989 to operate in the rural areas of 199 upazilas. later it obtained nationwide 15 years GSM license in november 1996 to extend its business to cellular mobile, radio telephone services. It launched operation in the last quarter of 1997 as a Bangladesh – malaysia joint venture.
Teletalk
Teletalk was Founded on 26 December 2004.
teletalk is The number 4th mobile operator in bd and Taletalk is the only one govt. owned mobile operator company in Bangladesh. Teletalk is the number 5th mobile operator in Bangladesh.
